| Genetic function data that is essential for the development of gene-based medicine |
The mapping of the human genome having been completed, searching for useful genes and their use following the results of genomic research are becoming increasingly important all over the world. Pharmaceutical companies and various institutes of universities can now involve gene therapy such as new drug discoveries, regenerative medicine, developmental medicine, preventive medicine or prognosis of diseases in their research. Our company, TRANS GENIC INC., provides beneficial genetic information for exploring useful genes.
Drug discoveries still require information on the functions of genes even though decoding of the genetic sequence has been completed. In addition, it is recognized that specific functions of each gene are extremely complicated and one gene has connections to several functions, though there are no more than 32,615 human genes. Therefore, not only analyzing individual structures of genes or proteins but also analyzing genes through tissue and/or the whole body are needed to truly clarify the functions of genes. We consider that our core business, the production of gene knockout mice, plays a very important role in the clarification of functions of genes in vivo.
In our business of the production of gene knockout mice, we are pursuing better research results in order to provide functional gene data by generating gene knockout mice from the technique called "Exchangeable Gene Trap Method" developed by Prof. Ken-ichi Yamamura at Kumamoto University (as well as being a director of our company).
