"Exchangeable Gene-trap Mouse Technology"
has been Patented in Europe |
| |
TRANS GENIC INC. (headquartered in Kumamoto, Japan, CEO: Ken-ichi Yamamura, hereinafter referred to as “we”) hereby announce that a basic patent has been granted for our fundamental technology of “an exchangeable gene-trap mouse technology (hereinafter referred to as “the Technology”)” by the European Patent Office (Patent No.: EP1201759). |
| |
The patent granted this time widely covers trap vectors which can be randomly-inserted into genes and an exchangeable gene-trap method using the vectors. With this technology invented by Dr. Ken-ichi Yamamura, our CEO and professor of Institute of Resource Development and Analysis, Kumamoto University, we can produce experimental transgenic mice with high efficiency. The Technology has been partially patented in the U.S. |
| |
We cyclopaedically produce a large variety of knockout mice and ES cells with the Technology and disclose information about them in “TG Resource Bank ®” on our website. We also license use rights by strain to pharmaceutical companies and research institutes at home and abroad, allowing them to use these materials continuously for their researches to identify target genes for novel drugs and genome functional analysis. |
|
| |
| The effects of the patent acquisition on our performance for the fiscal term ending March 2011 are immaterial, and accordingly existing forecasts of business results remain unchanged. |

: Exchangeable Gene-Trap Method |
It is a technology to produce genetically engineered mice effectively, invented by Dr. Ken-ichi Yamamura, our CEO and professor of Institute of Resource Development and Analysis, Kumamoto University. Genes expressed in murine ES cells are completely destroyed at random with trap vectors.
Unlike conventional trap methods, it completely destroys genes and the trapped genes are exchangeable with other genes such as human genes and mutation. Therefore, it is useful for developing human disease model animals and conducting gene functional analyses precisely. |
: TG Resource Bank ® |
It is our bioresource library on our website. We disclose information of approximately 700 knockout mouse strains and 2,000 knockout ES clones produced by the exchangeable gene-trap method.
