Knockout Rats

Knockout Rats

For analyzing human disease states, genetically engineered animals are widely used at research sites as disease models and as tools for analyzing the functions of particular genes.

As experimental animals, rats, more than mice, are similar to humans in terms of physiological reactions; are appropriate for analysis of hypertension, cardiac disease and drug metabolism; and are easy to handle with regard to microsurgery, blood collection and tissue sampling. In affiliation with Transposagen, a company with unique genetic-engineering technologies, our company is able to offer knockout rats from numerous libraries.

Overview of Transposagen

Headquartered in Pennsylvania, in the United States, Transposagen Biopharmaceuticals, Inc. produces double transgenic rats that express both transposase and sequences that have a gene trap function in a transposon region, and, by crossing these rats with wild rats, randomly creates knockout rats (TKOTM Knockout Rat Models) on a large scale.
Transposagen also produces TGEMTM Rat Models: rats with point mutations induced by ENU (N-acetyl-N-nitrosourea).
